Career

Juan Carlos Paz y Puente started his versatile career as a drummer. Constant development transformed him into a well-rounded musician, composer, and arranger, and he has left an indelible mark on the Mexican music industry through his multifaceted talents.

Paz y Puente made a name for himself as an independent drummer for studio recordings; at the age of 19, he was the drummer for the legendary Armando Manzanero, and a couple of years later, he became Musical Director and drummer for Pandora, Rocío DúrcalCamilo Sesto and Hernaldo Zúñiga.

As a composer, arranger, and programmer, he worked with many artists in Pop, Rock, Jazz, and Regional Mexican Music. As a co-owner of a thriving studio, his responsibilities extended beyond the creative sphere, where he seamlessly juggled public relations, client acquisition, and administrative duties. In 1993, he was signed by Warner Music to record his album "Fermatta," which stayed at the top 10 most sold "World Music" albums for many months.

Co-Founder and CEO of Academia de Musica Fermatta (1993 to 2008). Also co-creator of "LEA," an innovative method that revolutionized how reading and writing music had to be taught. This unique method was the foundation of what later became the best Music Academy in México. He was responsible for getting official recognition from the Mexican Government for all three majors and started the relationship with Berklee College of Music (Boston, MA) to become one of the 14 schools of the BIN (Berklee International Network).

In 1995, Paz y Puente became Luis Miguel's Production Manager, leading a 108-member crew for the "Segundo Romance" USA & Latin America tour.

From 1996 to 2000, he led the A&R and Marketing departments in Warner Music Mexico, working closely with Maná, Café Tacuba, El Tri, Ricardo Montaner, La Ley, Guillotina, Daniela Luján, and Fernando Osorio, among others.

He signed Edith Márquez and produced the first Francisco Cespedes albums, "Vida Loca" and "Dónde está la Vida," and produced the iconic album "El Tri Sinfónico."

In 2002, UCLA invited him to create and teach the course "Composition of Popular Songs."

He was the co-founder and CEO of M&L Music from 2002 to 2005. He recorded and released the albums of renowned Mexican Jazz Musicians Eugenio Toussaint, Enrique Nery, and the one and only Claire Fischer.

In 2006, he moved to San Diego, CA., and created The Futbol Factory" A Soccer academy for youngsters.

After some years, Paz y Puente returned to the Music Industry as a producer, A&R specialist, and consultant to artists, colleges, and universities.

In May 2021 he founded Renascita S.A de C.V, with David Garza M, in Monterrey, Mexico.
